The Americas is a treasure trove of travel gems and here are six top experiences to whet your appetite.

Go roadtripping in California

Set out from Los Angeles in a convertible, and head down the highway to one of many cool destinations. Choose Palm Springs, famous for mid-century-modern architecture, mineral springs and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Visit San Diego with its plethora of beaches, or Santa Barbara – the ‘American Riviera’ with its art and fashion and wineries. Head out to Mammoth Lakes with its summer hiking, fishing and biking and its incredible skiing and snowboarding in winter. The Big Sur coastline to Monterey is striking, and any road trip should take in San Francisco, with so many highlights from Alcatraz to the Golden Gate and Fisherman’s Wharf.

Visit National Parks

The national parks in the USA, Central America, and South America, showcase the most spectacular scenery, from famous parks such as Yellowstone and Yosemite in the USA, Torres del Paine National Park in Chile and Iguazu Falls National Park in Argentina. There are so many other absolutely incredible parks, including Tikal National Park in Guatemala, Arenal Volcano National Park in Costa Rica, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that straddles Tennessee and North Carolina. America’s newest national park is the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, in West Virginia, known for its rafting, hiking and wildlife.

Catch the Rocky Mountaineer

Arches is one of Utah’s ‘Mighty 5 National Parks, with the others being Canyonlands National Park, Zion, Capital Reef and Bryce Canyon. A spectacular and luxurious way to get to Moab is on the Rocky Mountaineer ‘Rockies to the Red Rocks’ journey, which is a two-day trip between Denver, Colorado and Moab, with an overnight stay in spa heaven – Glenwood Springs – on the way. Sit in comfort in Rocky Mountaineer’s outstanding SilverLeaf Service, with fine food and wine a suitable accompaniment for the inspiring landscapes, including Ruby Canyon, Mount Garfield and crossing the Continental Divide.

Amazing cities

From New York City’s big, beautiful, melting pot of cultures and excitement, to Rio de Janeiro’s beaches and vantage points, there are so many wonderful cities to visit. In the USA, Chicago, Boston, Dallas and Fort Worth, Boston and Washington D.C. all have different personalities and so many things to see and do. In Central America, Havana is an intriguing mix of the old and the new in Cuba, while Los Cabos in Mexico is an aquatic paradise. And in South America, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Santiago in Chile are bustling with colour and culture.
