Fall in love with Oahu Hawaii

20th October 2014

The picturesque islands of Hawaii is a must-visit for couples in love. This gorgeous Pacific destination is as fun as it is beautiful, and offers a number of experiences for all personality types. If you're interested in a Hawaiian Holiday with your loved one, don't discount the island of Oahu. Maui may be known for its stunning scenery and the Big Island for its delicious Kona coffee, but Oahu has a charm all its own - oh, and did we mention it's home to the world-famous Waikiki Beach? Honolulu Honolulu is part cosmopolitan city and part laid-back island community. With a population of about 370,000, it's the biggest town you'll find in Hawaii. If you love luxury amenities, great shopping and pristine beaches, you needn't look further than Honolulu. Take your shoes off and relax on Waikiki Beach. This gorgeous strip of coast is home to a plethora of luxurious resorts situated just a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean. Whether you're strolling down the beach hand in hand at sunset, participating in an authentic Hawaiian luau or simply sunbathing side by side, you and your partner will find that Waikiki is quintessential Hawaii. While you're in Honolulu, you might also want to take advantage of the area's great shopping opportunities. The Royal Hawaiian Center is the city's largest mall, boasting four levels, designer brands and 80 different stores. The Ala Moana Center is another local favourite. However, if you'd prefer to simply peruse the area while catching some sun, take a stroll around downtown. Kalakaua Avenue is just steps from the beach and is home to a variety of major-label stores. The North Shore Many couples forgo a trip to Oahu, thinking that it may be too urban for a romantic getaway, but this is definitely not the case! The island's North Shore is within driving distance of Honolulu, but it feels like a different world. The North Shore is home to some of Hawaii's most breathtaking waves and is a go-to spot for avid surfers. The area's beaches span more than 11 kilometres. Popular destinations include Waimea Bay, Ehukai Beach and Sunset Beach. While you're on the North Shore, check out Haleiwa. This tiny little town boasts plenty of local charm and is off the beaten path. Enjoy a romantic beachside dinner at Haleiwa Joe's, do some window shopping around town or indulge in a local favourite culinary pastime: shave ice! There are so many things to explore throughout the North Shore. Start your day off with pastries and great coffee at at Ted's Bakery, a local favourite located just outside of Haleiwa. Stroll through the Waimea Arboretum and Botanical Gardens to get a glimpse gorgeous native Hawaiian flowers and trees. Or simply relax on the beach, mai tai in hand, enjoying each other's company. Other Oahu attractions There are many other attractions in Oahu outside of the North Shore and Honolulu. No trip to the island is complete without a visit to Pearl Harbor, the site of the Japanese bombing credited for bringing the United States into World War II. Though a sombre attraction, Pearl Harbor has a historic significance and cannot be ignored. On a sunnier note, visit the Dole Plantation, located in Wahiawa. Here, you can hop aboard the Pineapple Express, a miniature train that takes visitors through the plantation's expansive pineapple fields. While you're there, make sure to enjoy some Dole Whip, a whipped, pineapple-flavored, ice cream-like concoction unlike anything you've ever tasted. No matter what you hope to do in Hawaii - shop, sunbathe, explore, eat - you can do it on the island of Oahu. This top-notch romantic destination is great for couples with an enthusiasm for diverse experiences and a love of the great outdoors.
