Virgin Australia is in a difficult business position, entering voluntary administration on 20 April 2020. Sadly, during the administration process, many customers have been affected by changes made by the administrators.
There are high hopes that the new owner, or owners, might honour the credits currently held by customers who have had their flights cancelled due to COVID-19, however in this unpredictable situation, nobody can really predict what will happen when new owners take over the business. We understand that this is an incredibly frustrating situation for anyone with a Virgin Australia conditional credit, which must be used by 15 August 2020, or may expire after that date, particularly when there are very limited ways to use it while borders remain closed. However, we do love a travel challenge and creating complex itineraries are our speciality, so we thought we could bring you a little hope and spark a few ideas so that not all is lost. We know it’s definitely not what you had planned, but just maybe it’s what you need right now. Here are our savvy tips for using those conditional credits!
Where can you go with Virgin Australia before 15 August 2020?
There are actually more options than you may think. Virgin Australia is flying between 17 Australian cities right now. Flights between our major cities, like Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth are daily, and most of the others are flying at least three times per week.

But the borders are closed so how can I travel, you ask?
This is a hot topic around Australia right now, and while there we do have some answers we are expecting to have a lot more in early July. We’ll keep this list updated as we have more information.
- The ACT, NSW and VIC currently have no border restrictions, so if you live in those states you are free to go back and forth.
- SA has just reopened its borders to residents of WA, TAS and NT, and QLD is not far behind opening on 20 July.
- QLD borders are still closed, but are tentatively set to reopen, potentially to certain states only, by 10 July.
- NT borders are still closed, but if you live here you can travel to SA. The borders are set to open to all states on 17 July.
- TAS borders are closed, but if you live here you can travel to SA.
- WA borders are closed, but if you live here you can travel to SA.
