Itinerary
Day 1 Athens (Piraeus), Greece
Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world and the foundation on which Western civilization was built. The Acropolis, with the Parthenon at its summit, remains the defining image of the entire Greece, but the city below rewards just as much: the ancient Agora, the National Archaeological Museum, the Plaka neighbourhood's tavernas and neoclassical streets, and the view at dusk from Lycabettus Hill over a city of four million. Piraeus is the port that has served Athens since antiquity; the journey from quayside to the foot of the Acropolis takes less than half an hour.
Day 2 Santorini, Greece
Santorini is the most instantly recognizable island in the Aegean, the blue-domed churches and whitewashed buildings of Oia and Fira cascading down the inner cliff of a volcanic caldera formed by one of history's most catastrophic eruptions. The geological drama is the setting; the sunsets, the black sand beaches of Kamari and Perissa, the Minoan ruins at Akrotiri, and the local Assyrtiko wine are the substance. Santorini rewards early mornings and late evenings, when the light does what made it famous and the crowds have retreated to the cruise ships and the hotels.
Day 3 Heraklion, Greece
Heraklion is Crete's capital and, for many visitors, the gateway to the island's greatest archaeological treasure: the Minoan palace of Knossos, a Bronze Age labyrinth of frescoed corridors and ceremonial courts that inspired the legend of the Minotaur. The city itself is more rewarding than its workmanlike reputation suggests, the Venetian harbor fortress, the Archaeological Museum's unrivaled Minoan collection, and the Lion Fountain at the heart of the old town make a compelling case for staying closer to port. The morning market is one of the finest in Greece.
Day 4 Milos, Nisos Melos, Greece
Milos is the most geologically theatrical island in the Cyclades, its coastline shaped by volcanic forces into colored cliffs, sea caves, and the famous multicolored fishing village of Klima, boats moored directly below boathouses painted in every warm shade. The Venus de Milo was discovered here in 1820, now in the Louvre; the island's museum holds the cast. The beaches, Sarakiniko's lunar white pumice, Tsigrado's hidden cove, Firiplaka's golden sand, are among the most varied and beautiful in Greece.
Day 5 Naousa, Paros, Greece
Naousa is a fishing village on Paros's northern coast that has become one of the most charming small ports in the Cyclades without losing the qualities that made it worth visiting. The old harbor, fishing boats, octopus drying on lines, whitewashed walls, remains the heart of the place, surrounded by seafood tavernas where local Parian wine is served at outdoor tables. The ruined Venetian castle at the harbor entrance and the nearby beaches of Kolymbithres complete a stop of uncomplicated, confident beauty.

Day 7 Rhodes, Greece
Rhodes is one of the most historically layered islands in the Mediterranean. The medieval Old Town a UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by the Knights of St. John in the 14th century and remains one of the best-preserved Crusader cities in the world, its Street of the Knights intact after seven centuries. Beyond the walls, the beaches of Lindos, the acropolis at Kamiros, and the island's turquoise coastline broaden the appeal considerably.
Day 8 Kusadasi, Turkey
Kusadasi opens the door to Turkey's sunlit Aegean coast and, above all, to extraordinary Ephesus, one of the ancient world's most impressive archaeological sites. Beyond the lively waterfront, a landscape of ruined temples, marble streets, and Roman grandeur tells the story of civilizations that once flourished here. This stop blends resort ease with profound history, offering the rare pleasure of moving from a bustling harbor to one of antiquity's great surviving cities in a single memorable day ashore.
Day 9 Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos has been celebrated since the 1960s when artists and celebrities first discovered its whitewashed lanes, windmills, and pellucid blue water. The secret is long since out, but the island has absorbed its fame without entirely losing its character. Little Venice, where houses overhang the sea, remains beautiful at any hour. At the center of the Cyclades, Mykonos also serves as the natural base for Delos, the uninhabited sacred island that was once the religious capital of the ancient Greek world, and one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mediterranean.
