Take a greater bite of the Big Apple

There is nowhere quite like Manhattan, with its neck-craning array of skyscrapers and the incredible range of places to dine, from famous delis and diners to Michelin-starred restaurants. There is Central Park, with so many things to discover including Bow Bridge, model boats, Strawberry Fields and the North Woods, and there’s Broadway, where you can see the world’s best productions from long-running hits to the next big thing. There is something for everyone in Manhattan.

Once considered edgy, Brooklyn has been gentrified and is an excellent base from which to explore New York with several cool hotels that are a great alternative to Manhattan. Walk or ride across the Brooklyn Bridge and view it from the boardwalks and parks by the East River. Get the famous shot of the Manhattan Bridge from the intersection of Water and Washington Streets in Dumbo, and soak up the art and dining scenes in Williamsburg, Prospect Heights and Bushwick.

There’s more to do than board the iconic and free Staten Island Ferry. Discover the historic charm of Richmond Town and enjoy the bliss and history of Snug Harbor. The island has many museums and historic sites as well as parks, beaches and gardens, many with those jaw-dropping views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. The food scene is diverse, with some of the quintessential Staten Island tastes including a treat from Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices, Italian pastries at Royal Crown Bakery, Lee’s Tavern for pizza and beer, or try Sri Lankan food at New Asha.

This surprising borough was established in 1683 as one of the original 12 counties of New York City. It is home to both John F Kennedy and La Guardia Airports, and is the focus of the tennis world in summer when the US Open bounces onto the scene in Flushing. Queens holds the Guinness Book World Record as the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world, with at least 138 languages spoken. Visit Louis Armstrong’s home, hit the beach at the Rockaways, or sample many of the world’s cuisines.

Hip Hop was born in The Bronx, with creative flair evident everywhere. The Bronx is where you’ll find Yankee Stadium, where legends like Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio made history. Stroll down the Grand Concourse inspired by the Champs-Élysées, explore vibrant neighbourhoods like Riverdale, and head to Little Italy on Arthur Avenue, an in-demand foodie destination. Immerse in the greenery of the New York Botanical Garden, Wave Hill and Van Cortlandt Park.
